Losing belly fat is difficult with no exercise, but it can be accomplished if you closely watch the calories you eat. As you reduce the amount you eat, the body will turn to body fat, which removes the extra pounds from your waistline. It's estimated that 3,500 calories equals one pound of fat, so once you decide how many pounds you want to lose each week, you can lose belly fat through low-calorie diet without exercising.
Step 1
Purchase a food journal to help you keep track of how many calories you consume each day. This will help you avoid accidentally eating too much. For each meal you eat, count the calories and enter them into the journal.
Step 2
Use the BMI calculator (see Resources) to determine how many calories you burn without any activity. For each pound of fat, you burn approximately ten to 13 calories each day, depending on your regular activity. This number is your resting metabolic rate, and it is the amount of calories you need to maintain your current weight. Reducing this amount will cause you to lose weight in the belly area without even exercising.
Step 3
Determine how many pounds you want to lose each week. If you currently consume 2,000 calories per day to maintain your weight, then you need to consume 1,500 calories each day to lose one pound of fat. One pound of fat is a reasonable amount that won't cause you to starve.
Step 4
Plan balanced meals that focus on calorie content. If you eat three meals a day, then you need to plan meals that only have 500 calories per meal. However, these amounts could be lower if you eat snacks. Don't forget to take into account any snacks into your caloric intake for the day. This includes hidden calories from ingredients in recipes, condiments and even the cream you add in a cup of coffee.
Step 5
Drink plenty of water. Water does not contain calories, and it keeps your body hydrated. Water will also clean out toxins in the body. A glass of water before a meal will help you feel full and reduce the amount of food you eat during your meals.
