How to Take Vanadyl Sulfate

Vanadium is a trace mineral believed to provide benefits to athletes when used in small amounts, according to "Strength Training Academy." However, according to "Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies," vanadium has not been proven to provide any benefits in clinical studies.

Vanadyl sulfate and vanadate are forms of vanadium. Vanadium is the form most commonly found in food, whereas vanadyl sulfate is the form most commonly found in dietary supplements.

Consult your physician prior to taking vanadyl sulfate or any other dietary supplement.

Step 1

Consult your physician to learn the proper dosage of vanadyl sulfate for your needs. Typical dosages vary from 10 mcg to 30 mcg per day.

Step 2

Take your vanadyl sulfate supplement on an empty stomach. Wait at least 30 minutes after taking vanadyl sulfate to eat to allow your body to best absorb the supplement.

Step 3

Plan to take your vanadyl sulfate at the same time each day to maintain steady levels of it in your system.

Step 4

Revisit your physician if your diet significantly changes, as this might warrant a change in your vanadyl sulfate dosage. Most people consume 6 mg to 18 mg of vanadium in food, according to "Contemporary Nutrition." Foods high in vanadium include mushrooms, shellfish, beer, black pepper, parsley, dill weed, wine and grains.
