Goserelin is marketed as Zoladex, a medication used to treat prostate cancer and other problems such as breast cancer of pre-menopausal or menopausal women and endometriosis, a condition in which excessive tissue growth occurs within or outside the uterus. It also may be used to reduce the thickness of the uterus lining prior to surgery. Zoladex mimics the action of LHRH or luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone, which is needed to produce testosterone. While Goserelin stays within the body, it tricks the pituitary gland into thinking it is LHRH. By its mimicking nature, it causes the body to decrease the amount of testosterone produced, which aids the body's fight against prostate cancer.
Serious
Zoladex may cause heartbeat problems in both men and women. The use of the medication may cause tachycardia or an increase in the heartbeat rate. Zoladex also may cause irregular heartbeats. Tell your doctor about these because they need medical attention. Other potentially serious side effects may include difficulty breathing, pain in the joints, chest tightness, pain in the bones, wheezing, pain in the bones, a severe and sudden drop in blood pressure---hypotension---that may cause you to collapse, facial skin discoloration, a rash, itching or hives, fainting, hand tingling or numbness, feet tingling or numbness, eyelid or eye area swelling and shortness of breath.

For women, they include nervousness, anxiety, changes in mood, voice deepening, depression and growth of hair increases. Men may experience chest pains, leg pain in the calves or groin pain.
Temporary
The use of Zoladex also may cause temporary side effects. While non-serious in nature, these side effects should be explained to a physician if they continue. They are hot flashes, gaining weight, vision blurring, insomnia, injection side problems such as swelling, burning, redness or itching, foot swelling, lowered libido, leg swelling, dizziness, breast tenderness or swelling, headaches, vomiting or nausea.
