Most yoga bags are ample enough to carry your mat to and from class. Some have a pocket to keep your keys, wallet or cell phone safe, while others are large enough to carry your whole kit. The bag that's right for you depends on your specific needs and preferences.

Basic

The Yoga Warehouse's Cotton Yoga Mat Bag is simple, inexpensive and has enough space to fit both 1/8- and 1/4-inch mats. It features an outer pocket and an adjustable strap. As of February 2011, the bag costs about $18, and is available in five colors, including dark blue, green, purple, burgundy and natural. There's also a nylon version for the same price, which features two external pockets and is available in navy, brown, black, gray and white.

Pretty

Oona Sera produce beautifully patterned bags in three sizes: Compact, Original and XL. The Compact and Original sizes are ideal for most standard-sized mats, while the XL is suitable if you have a slightly thicker mat or just want some extra space. All three sizes are made from cotton and lined with Cordura which is both water repellent and durable. The bags are machine washable, and cost around $60 each as of February 2011. Choose from the Orange Branches, Pink Retro Swirl, Orange Ume, Chocolate Mocca, Honeycomb and Brown Calligraphy designs.

Large

If you attend your yoga class straight from work, you may prefer a bag that holds both your mat and your kit. Yogoco's range of bags has separate mat and kit compartments. The mat compartment is ventilated to help keep your mat fresh, while the kit compartment also contains an inner pocket to help protect your valuables. These mats range in cost between $87 and $89, are made from eco-friendly fabrics, and come in both plain and patterned designs.

Different

If you need a smarter-looking bag, try Agoy's Dispatch Bag. The bag looks like a classic satchel type bag, but features retractable straps which allow you to carry your yoga mat on the bottom on class days. It costs around $60 as of February 2011, and is available in black or brown faux leather. The inner compartment is large enough for all of your usual possessions, while the mat strap is suitable for both classic and extra thick-sized mats.
