Modern fencing is divided into three styles, each named after the sword used -- epee, saber or foil. Another school of fencing, the classical style, focuses more on the technique and less on the competition. All fencing disciplines require a great deal of skill, poise and practice. Spending time at a fencing training camp could be an excellent way to improve your skills fast, or learn a few new tricks.

Lucchetti Fencing USA

Lucchetti Fencing USA is a fencing training school operated by Marcos Lucchetti. The school operates several locations in New Jersey, as well as ones at the Princeton YMCA and the Wilberforce School. The camp caters to all skill levels and for all ages from 8 upward. The 2010 camp flyer states that the training covers a range of skills, including conditioning, footwork and mental preparation. Lessons include both individual and group training.

Golden Gate Fencing Center

The Golden Gate Fencing Center in San Francisco runs a fencing camp for two weeks in midsummer. The center's website states that the fencing camp focuses on fundamental techniques taught in an enjoyable way. Bouts, training games, activities and skills workshops constitute the overall camp approach. The center, open since 1997, has two Olympic coaches. Indoor facilities include locker rooms, a fencing equipment repair room and 14 electric fencing training pistes.

Alliance Fencing Academy

The Alliance Fencing Academy runs two fencing camps -- the Mega Epee Summer Camp in June and a youth summer camp in June to August. The academy, based in Houston, Texas, provides fencing training for all levels and age groups. Fencing coach Andrey Geva oversees tuition and training programs. The Mega Epee Summer Camp is for advanced fencers looking to compete in national competition. The training encompasses three to four hours daily of practice bouts, as well as skills development, general fitness training and nutrition guides.

Manhattan Fencing

The Manhattan Fencing Center in New York City is home to Team USA Olympic fencing coach Yury Gelman and other international class coaches. The center runs several fencing camps for different ages groups, abilities and fencing styles. The center's website lists a pre-summer saber camp for advanced fencers, a foil fencing camp for intermediate fencers, a beginner foil camp for ages seven plus -- as well as a variety of other fencing camps.
