Lipase is an enzyme primarily manufactured in the pancreas, though smaller amounts are manufactured in the mouth and stomach. Lipase breaks down dietary fat to be absorbed in the intestines. Most people produce adequate amounts of lipase, but people suffering from cystic fibrosis, celiac disease or indigestion may benefit from taking lipase supplements, according to "Foundations of Nursing." Consult your physician before taking lipase supplements or any other dietary supplements.
Step 1
Take a lipase supplement with 6,000 lipase activity units on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before eating breakfast.
Step 2
Take 6,000 LU lipase supplements on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. According to "Foundations of Nursing," 18,000 LU of lipase split into three equal doses is the minimum therapeutic dosage.
Step 3
Plan to take your lipase supplements at the same times each day to maintain stable levels of the lipase in your system.
