The Wii is a video game system developed by Nintendo. The game system is different from earlier game systems in that it is interactive, allowing you to perform physical actions to control the action in the games. Although some Wii games are low-intensity, there are Wii games specifically designed to improve your fitness level or mimic the actions of sports and other physical activities.

Wii Fit Plus

Wii Fit Plus is a game that offers a comprehensive selection of activities to target a number of different fitness disciplines, such as balance, strength and aerobic capacity. Virtual skiing games aim to improve your balance, while pushup and lunge training can help build strength. Aerobic games include virtual hula hoop and running. In addition, Wii Fit Plus has a yoga mode and the Training Plus mode, which features all games from the original Wii Fit and new activities, including skateboarding, cycling and virtual snowball fights.

Dancetown

Finding activities that burn calories and improve your fitness level without feeling like exercise can be beneficial if you tend to struggle adhering to exercise programs. For this reason, a game such as Dancetown, which provides an aerobic workout through dance, may be effective for you. A study from the American Council on Exercise found that 30-minute Dancetown sessions burned an average of 136 calories. The organization suggested that the game's "Easy" mode is similar in intensity to walking at 2 mph, while the "Hard" mode emulates the intensity of walking at 3 mph.

Wii Sports

Wii Sports is a game that comprises several different sports such as golfing, tennis and bowling. The games vary widely in intensity, but they can improve your fitness level compared to sedentary video games. As Northwestern University's Medill Reports explains, Wii Sports games range in caloric expenditure from 117 calories per half-hour for golf to 216 calories per half-hour with boxing.

EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp

EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp is a game intended to emulate the experience of training for the National Football League. According to the game's official website, EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp was developed in conjunction with NFL strength and conditioning coaches. The game features punting, passing, running and other football drills that can improve your fitness level and burn calories.
