Levofloxacin (brand name Levaquin) is one of the antibiotics called fluoroquinolones that fight various bacteria in your body. It is used in treating bacterial infections of the skin or sinuses which cause bronchitis and pneumonia. It also fights bacterial infections of the kidney, prostate and bladder. It is often used in developing countries in the fight against anthrax. There are a number of common side effects of taking levofloxacin, depending on whether it is taken as eye drops, tablets or in a liquid solution as an injection.

General Side Effects

Some common side effects of taking levofloxacin in any of its forms include either constipation or diarrhea. Gas, nausea and stomach pain are also possible, according to drugs.com. Users may also have headaches, be lightheaded or feel dizzy.

Eye Drop Effects

Common side effects from taking eye drops include blurred vision, odd taste and sore throat. Also possible, according to Drugs.com, are eye dryness, headaches, light sensitivity, eye pain or burning sensation, and the feeling there is something in the eye. Users may also develop a fever.

Tablet and Solution Effects

Common side effects of the solution form of levofloxacin include diarrhea and stomach pain. Alternately, there may also be constipation or gas. Headaches, lightheadedness and dizziness are all possible common side effects, according to Drugs.com. These side effects can also come about from taking the medication in tablet form.
