Zone Pilates is a fitness system meant to improve flexibility and strength. Customers use a videotape and special equipment to perform traditional Pilates exercises. Zone Pilates may be beneficial for beginners, but the program does come with disadvantages. Talk with your doctor to determine if the program is appropriate for you.

Identification

Pilates is a fitness system designed by Joseph Pilates that was developed in the 1920s. It was originally used to help rehabilitate wounded soldiers and help dancers build strength and flexibility. Those who practice Zone Pilates use a Food GuideMat to ensure their feet are in the right position and a Zone Pilates Sculptor, a piece of equipment used to guide the body and add resistance. The company Savvier, LP claims that the equipment makes Pilates easier and more effective.

Zones

Zone Pilates divides your body into three zones; the arms and shoulders, the abdominal muscles and the thighs and glutes. Customers are advised to spend a few minutes each day on each zone. They should spend more time on a specific area if they want to see more rapid results. The video shows several short workouts focusing on each zone.

Benefits

Traditional Pilates can improve strength, balance, flexibility and coordination. It has been shown to be especially effective at building core strength. Zone Pilates has not been studied, but it may show similar benefits. Whether you find Zone Pilates beneficial depends on how easy to use you find the equipment. Zone Pilates may be beneficial because it can be performed at home and because it provides more resistance than traditional Pilates.

Disadvantages

If your purchase the Zone Pilates system, you will be signed up for auto-shipping. The company will automatically send you vitamins every 30 days and charge your credit card, unless you opt out of the program. Some customers are not satisfied with the equipment. Some users find the Sculptor bar uncomfortable or painful. Other customers have also complained about the short length of the video workouts. Diet Spotlight suggests that the program may be too easy for those experienced in Pilates, but may be helpful for beginners.
