Facial exercise is just one course of action to fight off chubby cheeks and double chins. Although overall weight loss will eliminate some of the fat that has accumulated in your face, toning exercises may help tighten your skin and provide you with a thinner look. Before beginning facial exercise, it is important to remember that facial exercise has not been proven to reduce facial fat.
Tongue Press
The tongue press is a facial exercise designed to help firm a double chin, leaving your neck and face with a thinner look. To begin, place your thumbs on the underside of your chin with your fingers supporting your jaws. Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth while rubbing your chin from the front to back with your thumbs. Repeat this process up to 40 repetitions. Avoid rubbing the skin harshly so as to eliminate risk of friction burns.
Lip Lift
Strengthening the facial muscles are a way to reduce fatty deposits. To tone and strengthen your jaw, chin and cheeks, lift your lower lip over your upper lip. Stretch as far as you comfortably can. Lift your neck up as if you were looking at the sky and hold your position for five to 10 seconds before returning to normal position. Repeat 20 to 30 times per day.
Facial Yoga
Yoga has been noticed as a stress relieving exercise as well as a way to improve flexibility. Facial yoga works along the same lines, helping minimize the appearance of wrinkles as well as helping facial weight loss. Facial yoga includes movements such as blowing a kiss, furrowing your brow and laughing hard. All these movements stretch the muscles, relaxing your face while working target areas simultaneously. Even movements such as making "fish lips" are being hailed as better than injections, according to CNN.
Smile
Smiling not only brightens your face but it also works your cheek and mouth muscles. By smiling as wide as possible and holding for five to 10 seconds, you stretch and work these key facial areas. Smiling exercises are repeated as many times per day as you can handle. Show your teeth when performing smiling exercises, instructs the University of California's Davis Health System.
