Yoga is one of six orthodox traditions of Indian philosophy. Part of yoga is practiced in the form of asanas, or poses. Each pose has multiple benefits, including weight loss and metabolism regulation. Some poses may help reduce fat in certain areas, like the hips and thighs. Consult your doctor before starting any new exercise routine.
Virabhadrasana 2
Virabhadrasana 2, or warrior 2 pose, will reduce fat around the hips and thighs, according to yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. In a standing position, bring the feet 4 feet apart and stretch your arms out to the side. Turn your right toes toward the right and bend the right knee deeply. Turn your gaze toward your right fingertips, but keep your upper body facing forward. Hold the pose for 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
Utthita Parsvakonasana
Utthita parsvakonasana, or extended side stretch, reduces fat on the waist, hips and thighs, says Iyengar. While standing, bring your feet 4 feet apart and stretch your arms out to the side. Turn your right toes toward the right and bend the right knee deeply. Bring your right hand to the floor next to your right foot and extend your left arm above the body, toward the right. Turn your gaze upward and hold for 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
Garudasana
To perform garudasana, or eagle pose, start in a standing position. Bend both knees slightly and lift the right foot off the floor and cross the right leg over the left leg. If you have the flexibility, wrap your right foot behind your left calf. Then wrap your right arm under your left arms and twist the arms together. Bring the palms to touch if you are able. Hold the pose for 30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
Gomukhasana
Gomukhasana, or cow face pose, can help reduce thigh fat. While in a seated cross-legged position, bring your right leg over your left leg with your right heel near your left buttocks. You are basically stacking your knees on top of each other with your heels touching both sides of your buttocks. You may lean forward for a deeper stretch. Hold the pose for 30 seconds. Repeat with the opposite leg on top.
