Your colon, or large intestine, is the terminal part of the digestive tract that absorbs water and nutrients from the foods you eat. Keeping a clean and healthy colon is essential to prevent conditions from constipation to cancer. You do not need to have your colon cleansed professionally, because the colon can clean itself if with the proper diet.
Step 1
Avoid foods that are unnatural and may cause constipation or a clogged colon, such as processed foods and fried foods. Your colon may have more difficulty digesting preservatives and fats found in unhealthy foods. Furthermore, unhealthy foods are typically low in fiber and may compact your digestive tract.
Step 2
Consume foods that are high in dietary fiber, such as fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates and legumes. Fiber acts as a sponge that moves through your digestive tract to remove toxins and undigested materials. Set a goal to consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day to clean your colon. In addition, incorporate more complex carbohydrates and legumes to add more fiber to your colon cleansing regimen. Continue eating these foods daily to maintain a clean colon.
Step 3
Drink at least eight glasses of fluids per day to flush out undigested materials. Prefer to drink water, unsweetened tea or coffee with minimal sugar and cream. Avoid sugary juices and sodas to prevent excessive weight gain.
