The Slim-Fast diet is a weight loss plan that uses Slim-Fast diet products from the Unilever food company. The diet includes 1,200 calories per day for an average weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs. per week for most people. Before starting Slim-Fast, talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks of using a diet that requires you to eat so much processed food.
How It Works
On the Slim-Fast 3-2-1 Plan, you eat one meal, two meal replacement bars or shakes and three snacks each day. Each 100-calorie snack can be a Slim-Fast snack bar or 100-calorie portion of nutritious foods, such as vegetables, fruit or nuts. Slim-Fast snack bars provide 10 percent of the daily value for calcium and many vitamins. The Slim-Fast diet plan does not include a program to transition you off the diet after you reach your goal weight and you are trying to prevent yourself from regaining the weight.
Meal Bars and Shakes
Replace your regular breakfast and lunch or dinner with a Slim-Fast meal bar, a 12-oz. ready-to-drink shake, or shake mix made with 1/3 cup of Slim-Fast shake mix and 8 oz. of skim milk. Examples of flavors include chocolate cookie dough or chocolate fudge brownie meal bars, and chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes and shake mixes. Each meal replacement product provides 180 to 200 calories, up to 5 g dietary fiber and at least 20 percent of the daily value for most vitamins and essential minerals.
Balanced Meal
Each day, have a single 500-calorie meal with half of your plate full of vegetables, such as broccoli, carrots or green beans. Divide the rest of your plate between a lean protein, such as chicken, fish or tofu, and a starch, such as whole-grain bread or pasta, potatoes, brown rice or corn. If you are on a lower-carbohydrate or higher-protein diet, you can skip the starch and have more vegetables and lean protein.
Other Components
Slim-Fast encourages you to make physical activity a part of your everyday life for better health and to burn more calories for faster weight loss.
