The Internet is full of miracle weight loss stories written by people claiming to have lost weight by running in sauna suits or plastic bags. Excessive sweating will indeed help you lose weight, but this is mostly water loss, and once you start eating and drinking normally again, you will put that weight back on. The dangers of over-sweating while working out are severe: over-heating and dehydration. Speak to a doctor or personal trainer about healthy ways to lose weight.

Sweat

You regulate your body temperature by sweating, so by wearing a sauna suit, you are forcing your body into cooling mode. As your body works hard to cool itself down, you burn a few extra calories, but be careful not to over-do it. Exhaustion and dehydration will only slow your weight loss regimen in the long-run, as you may have to take to bed for a few days to recover.

Dehydration

When you lose more fluid and electrolytes than you consume, you become dehydrated, and your body loses its ability to function normally. Experts at Rice University warn that when you exercise, you lose about 2 liters of sweat each hour, while you're only able to drink about 800 ml. And that's without a sauna suit. Severe dehydration can lead to fatigue, headache, dry skin, constipation, rapid heartbeat and breathing, fever and even delirium or loss of consciousness, so aim to keep your fluids topped up as much as possible when exercising.

Healthy Weight Loss

Exercise should not just be about losing weight; you also want to keep it off. So trying to lose 10 pounds in a week is just not sustainable. By slowly making lifestyle changes, you'll lose weight sensibly, and will be less likely to put it back on. On Military Fitness website, former Navy SEAL Stew Smith recommends aiming to lose around two or three pounds a week, for healthy weight loss, and you can easily achieve this by stepping up the amount of aerobic exercise you get every week, and by consuming fewer calories.

Lose Weight

The most sensible way to lose weight is to balance the calories you consume with the calories you burn. The Department of Health and Human Services recommends getting at least 150 minutes vigorous-intensity or 300 minutes moderate-intensity exercise each week for weight loss, while eating a healthful diet full of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains.
