Volleyball drills for the seventh grade are designed to improve your player's ability to spike, serve and defend around the net. While most volleyball players are still learning the fundamentals of the game in the seventh grade, it is possible to teach your players more advanced drills.

Two vs. Two Drill

This drill is designed to improve teamwork as well as fluidity on the court. Break up your entire team into pairs, then have a pair of players stand on each side of the court. Throw the ball in play and have the players hit the ball back and forth until one team wins a side out. The losing team must get off the court while the winning team stays on. The team with the most victories at the end of the day wins.

Defensive Volleyball Drill

This defensive volleyball drill is designed to improve your player's defensive positioning in the middle back portion of the court. Have a middle back player stand in the back and center of the court. Stand right in front of the net with a ball in hand and hit the ball several feet to the left of your middle back. Have him run toward the ball and hit it back to you. Have him run back to his original position and hit the ball a few feet to his right. Continue to hit the ball back and forth, forcing him to square up and hit the ball toward the target position.

Set Set Hit Drill

This drill is designed to improve your setters ability to transition to the net. Tell three players on your team to lie down flat on the ground directly on the end line. There should be one middle back, one setter and one outside hitter. Stand on the other side of the net and hit the ball over to the middle back. From here, the setter will move to the net and pass it back to the outside hitter who will then hit it over the net.

4 on 4 Free For All

This drill is designed to improve your players communication skills and hitting abilities. Divide your team up into groups of four. Have a group of four stand on either side of the net in a diamond formation. From here, hit a ball into play and have the four players on each side play a regular game of volleyball. After each point, have the players in the diamond rotate so that they get to play a different position.
