A Bodybugg is a device worn on the arm to measure forward motion, body temperature and sweat output and body temperature in order to calculate how many calories you burn while engaging in a certain activity. While ideal for daily activities, exercise and even sleeping, cycling can be difficult for the Bodybugg to register -- because the forward motion happens in the legs rather than the arms, the Bodybugg may give inaccurate results. By switching the positioning of your Bodybugg, you may get a more accurate output of calories burned while cycling.
Step 1
Invest in the larger strap that you can purchase at the same store you purchased your Bodybugg. The stock strap is meant for the arm and may not be wide enough to fit around your thigh, where it needs to be placed. Once you have the strap, remove the thin strap and thread your Bodybugg onto the larger strap.
Step 2
Center the Bodybugg on the back of your thigh, about two inches above the back of your knee. Since you use your legs while pedaling a bicycle, the Bodybugg will better register forward motion from your legs rather than your stationary arms.
Step 3
Secure the Bodybugg on the front of your thigh using the provided Velcro straps.
Step 4
Compare the data from your Bodybugg with a reputable health site once you're done your ride. Since the Bodybugg is meant to be worn on the arm, it may not give you perfect results when worn on the leg. Check with a "calories burned" website to ensure that you're getting a good reading on the Bodybugg while cycling (see Resources).
