How to Cook With Wheatgrass

Wheat grass offers many health benefits to the body, including prevention and treatment for some illnesses. It is also used to boost the immune system and hemoglobin production in the body. It has shown to help detoxify the liver and contains many antioxidants. Wheat grass has even shown to help suppress the appetite. Wheat grass can be purchased in four different forms, or you can simply grow it in a container on your windowsill. If you prefer to purchase, it comes in frozen, powder, tablet or fresh from the produce department at your local co-op or grocery store. When purchased fresh, it can be made into juice or store the Wheat grass in the refrigerator for later use.

How to Cook With Wheatgrass

Step 1

Blend up a smoothie and add wheat grass powder for breakfast. In a blender, add frozen or fresh fruit, low-fat yogurt and some crushed ice until smooth; at the end add in wheat grass powder. Because wheat grass can have a little of an off taste, you can consider adding a little sweetener, such as agave syrup or honey.

Step 2

Make a sauce of your choice that goes well on top of fish or chicken, and add wheat grass to the sauce. By adding wheat grass to your favorite sauce, you have just made it healthier. When making the sauce, you can use either the juiced wheat grass or wheat grass powder. The sauce can be cream or Olive oil based.

Step 3

Use a juicer to make a vegetable and fruit juice, and then juice fresh wheat grass. Juice together four medium-sized fresh organic carrots, a handful of spinach and two apples of your choice. Then, put through the juicer a small handful of wheat grass.

Step 4

Make homemade breads and add wheat grass powder. For added nutrients, consider adding flaxseed meal. If using a bread machine, add the wheat grass powder and flaxseed meal with the flour, which is right before the yeast.

Step 5

Make muffins and cookies more health by simply adding wheat grass powder to the dough before baking. Keep in mind that you may need to add a little extra sweetener, such as sugar or honey.
