Chances are you've heard about the long, lean, sculpting benefits of Pilates practice. This exercise method was created and introduced to the dance community by Joseph Pilates more than 80 years ago. Mari Winsor Biography
Winsor is a fitness expert, author and owner of two Pilates studios in California. Winsor was trained in the Pilates method of exercise through study with Kryzanowska. Winsor is credited with increasing public recognition of Pilates with the release of infomercials for her Winsor workout series. If you are unable to get to one of Winsor's California studios, you can experience her workouts through DVD. She has an online store offering several of her workout DVDs and a few are available in retail stores.
Mari Winsor Pilates
This DVD features classic mat Pilates moves. There is a 55-minute comprehensive workout and a 25-minute express workout. The only equipment you need to successfully complete this workout is a Pilates mat. Winsor takes your through each movement in a slow and controlled manner. The exercises are demonstrated with two options, one for the beginner and the other for the more advanced. As of 2011, the price for this DVD is less than $20.
Mari Winsor: Cardio Pilates
This 50-minute workout features two separate workouts and a cardio program. The only equipment necessary for this workout is a Pilates mat. The first workout teaches the fundamentals of Pilates such as the roll-up and hundred. The second workout focuses on lower-body toning. The cardio workout requires shoes and takes the user through some moderate intensity cardio moves. As of 2011, this DVD costs less than $15.
Gaiam Mari Winsor Slimming Pilates Kit
This package features a DVD with five workouts and a mobile, reformer type piece of equipment called the Accelerator. The Accelerator consists of two one pound hand weights, a stability bar, cushioned handle, and resistance tubing. The legs, back, and arms are targeted during each workout. One workout features a cardio segment. The package includes a 25-minute Pilates tutorial, two booklets, and a tape measure. As of 2011, the cost for this package is less than $60.
