The brightest lights allow you to illuminate the bike path during nighttime treks. The brightness of the bicycle lights is gauged with a unit of measurement defined as the lumen. The ideal bicycle light depends on your preferred genre of cycling. You can fasten the bike light to the handlebars or onto the front of your riding helmet.
Headlights
The brightest headlights for bicycling feature a series of bulbs that project a concentrated beam. According to Third Wave Websites, the brightest headlights are equipped with a specialized type of halogen bulb known as the HID. While the high-intensity discharge bulb can produce an extremely powerful beam, it will drain your batteries quickly. According to the bicycle experts at REI, halogen bulbs have less frequent filament burnouts than less expensive types of bike light bulbs.
Taillights
The bike taillight allows fellow cyclists and motorists to pinpoint your location during low-light riding conditions. The brightest taillights feature a different kind of bulb than those housed within the bike headlight. As opposed to projecting a concentrated beam, bike taillights produce a wide, flashing beam. The brightest taillights are equipped with a series of LED bulbs. Light emitting diodes help to conserve battery life yet still have the ability to produce a powerful beam of light.
Light and Motion Seca 1400
The Seca 1400 refers to a signature model bike light from the Light and Motion company. MTBR.com ranked the Light and Motion Seca 1400 as one of the brightest bike lights of 2011. The Seca 1400 from Light and Motion is equipped with a convenient mounting bracket that can fit on your handlebars or riding helmet. According to Bike Lights, the beam of the Seca 1400 can illuminate objects that are up to 90 feet away.
Exposure Light Six Pack
The Exposure cycling company offers the Six Pack as one of its brightest bicycle lights. The Six Pack houses a total of six high-powered LED bulbs can pump out more around 1800 lumens. Because of the intensity of the beam, the battery of the Six Pack bike light can wear down quickly. On the high-beam setting, the Six Pack has a battery life of three hours. On the medium-beam setting, the Six Pack battery life increases to 10 hours.
