How to Lose Weight Eating Fruits & Veggies

Fruits and vegetables are widely considered as the staple food groups for anyone who's serious about losing weight. Fruits and vegetables provide essential vitamins and minerals to the body, including fiber, which helps the body clean itself out. Many fruits and vegetables also have a high water content, creating a feeling of satiety during meals. This, in turn, helps in minimizing caloric intake. If you want to diet right, you should know how to use these food groups to your benefit.

Step 1

Adjust your diet to feature an increased load of fruits and vegetables. Consume at least three to five servings daily from each food group. Some ideal options include grapefruit, blueberries and green vegetables like broccoli and spinach.

Step 2

Supplement your meals. Mix spinach into your morning egg to make an omelet. Throw lettuce, tomato and avocado into what would otherwise be a plain turkey sandwich. Many dieters give in to hunger pangs when they cut calories. Fruits and veggies help you trick your body into feeling full.

Step 3

Eat apples, bananas, carrots or other fruits or vegetables for between-meal snacks.

Step 4

Stick to natural, preferably organic fruits. Fruits and vegetables preserved in syrup or canned don't have the same nutritional value as they do when they're natural, and they almost always put unnecessary sodium into your system.

Step 5

Enjoy fruit juices with your meals.

Step 6

Accent your meals with herbs derived from vegetables, such as basil and oregano. Use these in lieu of salt, butter, olive oil or other high-calorie ingredients.
