Healthy Foods to Eat When Losing Weight

Losing weight can be a difficult proposition. With tons of different diet plans on the market, many of which contradict one another, it can be confusing knowing which ones are correct. To lose weight, you do not have to eat special ordered packaged foods, purchase the latest diet book or spend a boatload of money. Simply make smart food choices and exercise on a regular basis and you will on the path to your goals.

Lentils

Lentils should be a staple in your weight-loss meal plan but they are often overlooked or assumed to be unhealthy. The truth is, lentils are loaded with soluble fiber and protein, both of which help keep your blood sugar levels stable, preventing the insulin in your body to spike. This is beneficial as spikes in insulin signal your body to store extra fat in your stomach. The fiber also keeps you feeling full. Lentils can be eaten as a main dish or side dish. They can also be used in vegan recipes as a substitute for meat.

Nuts

Typically, high-calorie foods are not good for weight loss, but nuts are an exception to the rule. Snacking on small servings of unsalted nuts provide you with the fiber and monounsaturated fats keep your taste buds happy and fill you up. Nuts also contain protein and numerous minerals and vitamins. Almonds are a good choice for your diet as they are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E. A handful makes a good serving and should be enough to satisfy you.

Green Leafy Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, are full of nutrients but low in calories, making them an obvious dieting choice. A lot of times, these leafy vegetables are not eaten because it is believed that to lose weight, it is required to eat a plain bowl of spinach and vegetables with no dressing or anything else added. By eating a salad consisting of spinach, some lean protein such as chicken breast or turkey, and 2 tbsp. of olive oil, you will satisfy your hunger and keep you from binging before your next meal or snack.

Green Tea

Although it is not something you eat, consuming tea provides you with a great tasting way to slim down. Green tea helps keep your body temperature and blood sugar regulated, helps your stomach digest food, keeps your heart healthy and is loaded with antioxidants. Green tea is essential to weight loss because it quickens the rate of fat oxidation and speeds your metabolism.
