The South Beach Diet is a weight loss program that emphasizes healthy carbohydrates to help you lose weight and improve your heart health. In 2008, the book, "The South Beach Diet Supercharged" was published. It provides more tips and a new workout program for the South Beach Diet. The program requires you to eliminate certain healthy foods and exercise, so get your doctor's approval before starting.
Background
The South Beach Diet claims you can lose 8 to 13 lb. during your 2 weeks on Phase 1 of the diet. This phase includes some chicken, fish, eggs, some vegetables, nuts, healthy fats, low-fat dairy and sugar-free ice pops or gelatin. Phase 2 is for steady weight loss until you reach your goal weight; you eat Phase 1 foods plus most fruits, whole grains and starchy vegetables. Phase 3 allows more fruits and more indulgences. Innovations in "The South Beach Diet Supercharged" include more recipes, food ideas and restaurant tips.
Supercharged Plan
The South Beach Supercharged Fitness Program is the product of an exercise physiologist, Dr. Joseph Signorile. The program is supposed to improve your heart health and increase your metabolism so you burn more calories and lose weight faster. You can modify each part of the program to your level of fitness. After you sign up for the South Beach Diet, you get your exercise plan and you can watch online workout videos to demonstrate the exercises.
Exercises
The South Beach Supercharged Fitness Program claims that in 20 minutes, it will give you the same benefits as you would get from 1 hour of your regular exercise. The website does not offer evidence for this claim. Every other day, your 20-minute workout involves interval walking, where you alternate between fast and slow walking to increase your heart rate and then let it recover. On the other days, you do a total body workout with strength exercises for your core to promote balance.
South Beach Online Program
Each day on the South Beach Diet Supercharged, you eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, a low-sugar or sugar-free dessert and two snacks. You need to register before you receive access to all of the South Beach Diet resources such as meal planners, grocery list generators, a weight tracker, a large recipe database and an online journal. You will also get nutritional counseling from a registered dietitian and a daily email with motivational tips and a menu plan for that day.
