Life Fitness is a well-established fitness equipment manufacturer that mostly creates machines for the commercial gym setting. According to the company, its elliptical trainers are one of the best built designs in the industry and they encounter very few problems, even after heavy use. However, any machine can break down over time, and problems will occur that you need to address.
Drive System
The drive system is the heart of any Life Fitness elliptical cross-trainer, and you should check it regularly for issues that can prevent you from working out. The most common source for problems in the flywheel and foot platforms is dust building up in the elliptical trainer bearings and other moving parts. Life Fitness recommends cleaning the moving parts weekly and inspecting them monthly for loose bolts. Tighten any bolts you notice are loose immediately.
Heart Rate Monitor
The wireless chest strap heart rate monitor included with Life Fitness elliptical trainers plays a crucial role in how the machine adjusts the resistance to best suit your physical fitness level. If your heart rate monitor is giving an inaccurate or completely lacking reading, moisten the electrodes and reapply it to your body. If the problem persists, clean the transmitter with mild soap and water, ensure it is within 3 feet of the electronics console, or check the battery to make sure it is not dead.
Electronic Interference
Some models of elliptical trainers, such as the Life Fitness X8, send and receive wireless transmissions that can interfere with television and radio signals. If this problem occurs, try moving the receiving antenna on either piece of equipment for a better transmission. If it persists, move the Life Fitness elliptical trainer farther away from the device it is interfering with and connect the power plug into a different breaker than the same one as the scrambled device.
Warranty
It is critical that you follow all of the instructions within your Life Fitness owner's manual when attempting to troubleshoot or correct a problem with the elliptical trainer. If you do not follow the strict protocol of the manual, you may void your service and parts warranty on the machine. Contact Life Fitness customer service at 1-800-351-3737 or 1-847-288-3300 and ask the technician for assistance if you are unsure of what repair procedure you need to follow for your elliptical trainer problem.
