Effective diets are ones that allow you to eat many different foods and still lose weight. According to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, teen obesity is on the rise. It cites research that has found 15 percent of teens in the United States are obese and an additional 15 percent are at risk of becoming overweight. Changing the foods you eat can help you lose weight.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers is a diet that allows you to eat all types of foods in moderation and helps with calorie control, according to the EveryDiet website. This is an ideal diet because as a teen you want to eat out with your friends and enjoy yourself. Weight Watchers gives you a certain number of points you are allowed to eat each day. Each person has a different number of points based on weight loss goals and activity. Every food has a its own point value, so you can eat whatever foods you desire as long as you are within your point range.
Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean diet is effective for weight loss and is easy to follow. The MayoClinic.com explains that the Mediterranean diet emphasizes eating fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and whole grains. Processed foods like cookies, chips and junk food are not a part of the diet, and red meat intake is drastically reduced from the amount most Americans eat. Instead, your daily meals consist of whole grains like whole-wheat pasta, cereal or bread; fresh fruits and vegetables; beans; nuts; low-fat dairy; and lean meats.
Slim-Fast
The Slim-Fast diet is a meal replacement diet that helps fuel your body with the proper calories and nutrition to lose weight, according to the MayoClinic.com. The Slim-Fast diet allows you to replace either one or two meals a day with a shake or a bar. When following the Slim-Fast diet, you may have a shake for breakfast, your own healthy snack, a bar for lunch and then your own healthy snack and dinner.
Considerations
If you are not quite ready to make the switch to a new diet, simply start by decreasing your intake certain foods. Omitting soda from your diet can save you hundreds of calories a day. Just one 12-oz. soda can have 140 calories and 39 g of sugar, according to the website Sugar Stacks. Another option would be to choose a healthy breakfast. Ditch the toaster pastries or sugary cereal and try whole-wheat waffles or cereal to keep you full longer.
