So much of the emphasis on weight loss these days lies in fast and quick trends or fad diets. While some of these diets are most likely effective, they're not always the healthiest way to lose weight and in some cases cause nasty side effects. To avoid the health dangers of weight-loss supplements, pills and fads, lose weight the proper way through diet and exercise.
Step 1
Eat more fruits and vegetables every day. Add a serving of vegetables to lunch and dinner, and eat fruit with breakfast and as a snack. Getting more produce in your diet means you're not only getting more essential vitamins and minerals but also consuming more water and fiber, both of which work to make you feel full so you don't consume as many calories.
Step 2
Eat five meals a day instead of three. Eating five meals a day that are spaced evenly throughout the day keeps your body's metabolism working at a higher level all day long and prevents you from getting so hungry that you overeat at meals.
Step 3
Cut out unnecessary calories. Foods that don't offer any nutritional value but are filled with calories should be removed from your diet like soda, chips, fast food and cookies. They merely add to your daily caloric intake and nothing else, making them a roadblock for proper weight loss.
Step 4
Exercise every day. Any time you have 30 minutes throughout the day, exercise consistently. Getting your heart rate up for 30 consecutive minutes through jogging, biking, swimming or something similar burns calories faster and encourages your body to burn fat. Not to mention it is generally good for your health and can prevent conditions like obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Step 5
Get plenty of sleep and try to stay stress-free. Feeling tired or stressed all the time can make it difficult to eat well and exercise. Make it a point to go to bed at a decent hour and to take a few moments each day to relax, meditate or just take time for yourself to avoid feeling overwhelmed. The more balanced you are in your life, the more weight loss will become a part of your lifestyle, rather than a temporary effort.
