Vertigo and high blood pressure are two different health problems, although they may occur simultaneously in some individuals. Vertigo, notes the National Health Service of the United Kingdom, is the sensation that you or your surrounding environment is spinning, wheres high blood pressure, or hypertension, is excessive pressure on your arterial walls as blood moves through them. Herbal remedies may be helpful adjunct therapies in treating these conditions, but you should avoid using herbs until you discuss the treatment with your doctor.

Vertigo and High Blood Pressure

Common signs and symptoms associated with vertigo include balance problems and lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, the sensation that objects are spinning around you and difficulty standing or walking. Vertigo-related symptoms, which are usually caused by an inner ear problem, may range from mild to severe. In many cases, there are no symptoms associated with high blood pressure, although severely elevated blood pressure may cause headaches, blurred vision, nosebleeds and shortness of breath in some individuals.

Vertigo Herbal Remedies

In her book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," nutrition researcher Phyllis A. Balch notes that ginger may relieve the dizziness and nausea associated with vertigo, while the leaves of the ginkgo tree tree may help boost circulation to the brain and improve brain functioning. Certain herbs may be helpful in treating high blood pressure, which may be associated with vertigo in some people. Examples of these herbs include black cohosh and dandelion. Butcher's broom is a good remedy for improving general circulation.

Hypertension Herbal Remedies

There are several herbal therapies that may be helpful in treating hypertension. According to Dr. Joseph E. Pizzorno Jr., a naturopathic physician and author of "The Clinician's Handbook of Natural Medicine," three botanical medicines may be particularly helpful adjunct therapies in treating high blood pressure: garlic, mistletoe and hawthorn berries or flowering tops. Other herbal remedies that may help treat this chronic health condition include olive leaf extract, linden flower and suma.

Additional Information

Many of the herbs that are commonly used in treating vertigo and high blood pressure are yet to be validated by contemporary scientific research. Before using herbal remedies to treat these conditions, discuss the effectiveness and safety of herbal medicines with your doctor. Certain remedies may not be appropriate for you or your specific health condition, due to allergies you might have or other prescription drugs you might be taking. Herbs are best used as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of your ailments.
