Kids and adults alike can enjoy spending time outside in group activities. Outside games provide quality time for people to spend together. Whether its team sports, such as kickball or soccer, or silly games played at parties for adults, outside games are a rewarding social outlet that also provide physical exercise.

Red Rover

The classic game of Red Rover can be enjoyed by all. The game doesn't require any equipment. Two teams in equal number line up and hold hands, facing one another. A minimum of eight players are required to play and children need to be 5 years or older. One team calls out to the other "Red Rover, Red Rover, send (player's name) over." The player then runs as fast as he can over to the other team trying to break two players clasped hands. If he succeeds, he picks a member to join his team. If he fails, then he joins the opposing team.

Red Light, Green Light

Another classic outdoor game is Red Light, Green Light. One player is picked to be the caller and stands away from the rest of the group. With her back turned to the other players, she calls out "Green Light!" and the players run until she calls "Red Light!" when they are forced to stop. The caller immediately turns around if she catches anyone moving they are forced to start back at the beginning. The play commences until someone runs up and tags the caller. A minimum of three players, ages 5 and up, can play this game --- including any adults who want to play along.

Blob Tag

There are a variety of tag games that can be played outside, including one called Blog Tag. A group gathers outside and one person is deemed the tagger. When the tagger catches someone the two form a "blob" by holding hands and continuing to chase the other players. The "blob" will continue to grow as they catch players. Communication is key so the "blob" does not get confused and go in different directions. Adults can make the game more complex by forming several "blobs" to chase players. A minimum of five players are needed for this game for children age 5 and up.

Giants, Wizards and Elves

Giants, Wizards and Elves appeals to the imagination and is based on the game "Rock, Paper, Scissors." Two teams are divided and each team decides on being a giant, wizard or elf, along with a back up choice. The teams then stand 4 feet apart and yell out what they are. Giants conquer wizards, wizards conquer elves and elves conquer giants. So if one team calls out "Giants!" and the other "Elves!" the elf team will chase the giant team to the safe zone. If the elves tag any of the giants, they automatically become a part of the elf team. If both teams call out the same name, the backup name is called. Children ages 7 and up can play this game, with a minimum of six players. Adults can make this game a little more interesting by making up their own names for each category.
