The Border Grill restaurant was created in 1997 by Dan and Joeyclaire Torres in Marquette County, Washington. The Torreses wanted to create a healthy and fresh alternative to fast foods. The Border Grill prepares all of its food fresh to order, and makes dishes such as rice and beans and guacamole from scratch every day. As of 2011, the Border Grill had three locations.
