The Eat to Live diet is based on the best-selling book, "Eat To Live: The Revolutionary Plan for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss" by author and speaker, Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Initially published in 2003, Eat to Live ignited 20 reprints and several language translations.

History

Fuhrman is a board-certified family physician specializing in natural medicine since 1995. Fuhrman naturally treats several conditions including autoimmune disorders, depression, diabetes and chronic fatigue syndrome. Fuhrman has written several books including "Eat Right America: Food Scoring Guide," and "Disease-Proof Your Child: Feeding Kids Right." Fuhrman is a proponent of natural weight-loss solutions.

Basics

The Eat to Live diet focuses on limiting processed foods, meat and dairy while increasing intake of whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables. The goal of the Eat to Live diet is optimal health and weight loss through nutrition. The Eat to Live diet also focuses on a high ratio of raw to cooked foods due to maximum absorption.

Recommendations

The Eat to Live diet recommends an unlimited amount of vegetables. The Eat to Live diet suggests at least 1 lb. of raw or lightly steamed vegetables per day and up to four servings of fruits. Legumes are also highly recommended. During a six-week Eat to Live plan, the diet recommends supplementing 1 tbsp. of ground flaxseed per day.

Restrictions

The Eat to Live Diet has some limitations. The Eat to Live diet proposes avoidance of refined carbohydrates, such as breads and pastas, and suggests limiting starchy foods, such as potatoes and grains, to 1 cup a day. Though the Eat to Live diet recommends avoiding meat for the first six weeks, it comes in a vegetarian and non-vegetarian form.

Considerations

The Eat to Live diet is meant to assist in weight loss, weight management and disease prevention through the use of nutrition. The Eat to Live diet suggests that by eating a high intake of vegetables, fruits and legumes, avoiding processed foods and limiting starchy foods, you can lose weight.
