Before you stop at the drive-thru for greasy chicken tenders, consider cooking at home. By making your own chicken tenders from skinless, boneless chicken breasts, you can control the ingredients in your family's favorite meal. You'll cut out calories, saturated fat and sodium by making chicken tenders yourself instead of ordering them at a restaurant.

Bake, Don't Fry

Make baked chicken tenders that are as delicious as the fried ones. Cut two skinless, boneless chicken breasts into strips. Toast Japanese breadcrumbs and sesame seeds in a skillet until they're golden brown. Mix an egg with a small amount of water, then season with salt, pepper and any other spices you like. Dip the chicken strips into the egg mixture, then dip them into the breadcrumb mixture. Bake in a 475-degree Fahrenheit oven for 14 minutes.

Spice it Up

Add some spice to your chicken tenders and create a full meal in 15 minutes. Cut three chicken breasts into approximately 12 strips, then sprinkle the pieces with chili powder. Spray a skillet with cooking spray, then brown the chicken on all sides, about two minutes. Pour half a can of unsalted black beans, a can of diced tomatoes and three small chopped chili peppers on top of the chicken. Boil the mixture, then cook for an additional three minutes, or until the chicken is white in the center. Drizzle olive oil on the pan, then serve with a dollop of sour cream.

Go Buffalo

Add some tang to your chicken by cooking them Buffalo-style. Mix 2 1/2 cups breadcrumbs and add salt and pepper to taste. Beat four eggs in a bowl, then dip four chicken tenders in the eggs. Dip the chicken tenders in the breadcrumbs, then put them on a plate. Heat 1/4 cup olive oil in a skillet, then cook the chicken tenders for about four minutes, until they're brown on both sides. Place the chicken tenders on a baking sheet and bake them in a 425-degree F oven for 10 minutes. While the chicken is cooking, mix 2 tbsp. melted butter and 6 tbsp. hot sauce. Pour the mixture over the chicken, then sprinkle with blue cheese crumbles.

Add Dipping Sauce

Your kids may be more likely to finish their dinner if it includes a dipping sauce. Make a honey mustard sauce to dip your homemade chicken tenders into. Mix 1/4 cup Dijon mustard and 1/2 cup honey in a small bowl. Whisk the ingredients until they're well combined. Serve in small side dishes alongside the chicken tenders.
