Power Tap is a wireless power meter used on bicycles made by CycleOps. It measures your power in watts based on how hard and fast you pedal. You use this information in two main ways -- to determine when to push harder or back off during a specific workout and to develop a training plan based on the data the device records from your workouts. This power meter is compatible with several wireless heart rate monitors.
Technology
The Power Tap is compatible with heart rate monitors that use ANT+ technology, the same technology that many GPS pedometers and cyclometers that accommodate heart rate monitors use. ANT+ is a wireless technology is used to collect data including speed, distance, cadence and, of course, heart rate with various sensors. The heart rate devices that use ANT+ technology typically are the type you wear around your chest. ANT+ technology is designed to overcome "cross-talk" with other devices if you are in a place where many other people are using wireless monitoring, such as a group ride or race.
CycleOps and Garmin
Other CycleOps products, including the 2.4 Coded Heart Rate Strap, will work with your Power Tap. Heart rate monitors that come with Garmin products, including the Edge, Forerunner and Oregon product lines, also feature ANT+ technology.
Common Compatible Products
The Addidas heart rate monitor, and the monitor that comes with the Addidas miCoach Pacer and miCoach Zone products, will work with your Power Tap. The monitors included with athosoft ERGOCAD and ERGOHR also use ANT+ and are compatible. Beurer products, including the chest strap and watch-like devices WM80, PM70, PM80 and PM90, work as well. Timex products that use ANT+ include the Ironman Race Trainer, Women's Ironman Race Trainer, Timex Heart Rate Monitor and the Timex Global Trainer.

Numerous Blackburn cyclometers come with heart rate monitors that also work with the Power Tap. These include the Neuro 4, Neuro 5 and Neuro 6. You may also buy a Blackburn heart rate monitor by itself. Bicycle computers that read data like speed, distance and cadence made by Bontrager also come with heart rate monitors that are compatible to the Power Tap. These include the Bontrager Node 1, Node 2. A Bontrager monitor can be purchased separately as well.
