How to Use Nustep

The NuStep is a recumbent cross trainer allowing both healthy and disabled individuals to work out in the gym or in a physical therapy clinic. The NuStep offers eight workout programs that can adjust to accommodate individuals rebuilding muscles through physical therapy and challenge those whose muscles are developed. Whether you are physically fit or obese, the recumbent feature lets you work out comfortably while burning calories and gaining strength.

Step 1

Adjust the seat position and handle distance once you sit in the NuStep seat. Pull up on the lever located at the front left of the seat. Slide the seat forward or back until your knees have a slight bend and your legs almost thoroughly extend.

Step 2

Pull up on the lever located at the left rear of the recumbent seat to adjust the reclining angle until you are comfortable with the position.

Step 3

Lift up on the blue release lever located on both the NuStep's handles. Extend or retract the handles until your elbows retain a slight bend when the handle is furthest from your body. Push the levers down to lock the handles in position.

Step 4

Move the handles or press the pedals to turn on the NuStep console. Press the "Quick Start" button to begin exercising immediately. Press the up and down arrows to enter your current weight, time goal to exercise, distance you want to cover while exercising and the number of calories you want to burn.

Step 5

Press one of the four buttons across the bottom of the NuStep console screen to choose one of the training profiles. The profiles include pace partner allowing you to race against another user's information stored in the console, the target heart rate gives you a target to achieve while exercising based on the information you entered, the constant speed program allows the console to calculate a speed you must maintain based on the goal information you entered. Other options to choose from include an exercise protocol or an exercise profile to provide different levels of intensity and training.

Step 6

Pedal and move the handles simultaneously and the NuStep automatically starts the programming you have chosen. Continue pedaling and moving the handles back and forth until you complete the program you chose. The NuStep automatically shuts down three minutes after you stop exercising.
