Jillian Michaels is a well-known fitness professional and personal trainer on the show "The Biggest Loser." She offers many workout DVDs for those people who would like to achieve weight loss in the comfort of their home. Depending on which DVD you purchase, some may or may not require the use of exercise equipment. The description on the DVD usually informs the buyer of the equipment needed for that specific workout.

Kettlebell

The Shred It with Weights workout DVD, which came out in 2010, utilizes the use of a kettlebell with a combination of aerobics and toning. According to Collage Video, a 5 to 20 lb. kettlebell is recommended, but if one does not own a kettlebell, the same moves can be done with a similarly weighted dumbbell. This workout engages almost every muscle in the body, and requires a great deal of core and upper-body strength. This is an advanced workout consisting of two levels; each workout lasts 28 minutes and includes the warm-up and cool down.

Dumbbells

Dumbbells are regularly used in Jillian Michael's workout DVDs. In her DVD, Six-Week Six Pack, there are two levels, which are 30 to 35 minutes each. The workout primarily focusing on the core muscles. This workout includes a mixture of cardio and ab-toning exercises, which requires the use of one 3 to 10 lb. dumbbell. Another DVD, Ripped In 30, requires the use of two dumbbells between the weight of 3 to 10 lb. There are four workouts, and each is structured with 3-2-1 interval system of toning, cardio and core work.

Yoga Mat

A yoga mat is recommended for Jillian Michael's DVD, Yoga Meltdown. This DVD offers the traditional yoga poses however, Jillian's goal is muscle endurance. The number of repetitions of each pose and the length of time the isometric poses are held help create an optimal workout. The first workout is for beginners while the second one is for advanced exercisers as it requires more flexibility and balance. A yoga mat could be used for any of Jillian Michael's workouts that require floor exercises.

Jillian Michael's book "Making the Cut," is a 30-day diet and fitness plan that helps readers achieve weight-loss and exercise goals. This supplemental information provides readers with knowledge of proper diet, nutrition and exercise. She also has a cookbook "Master Your Metabolism," which features 125 recipes for a healthy diet.
