Weight loss is a goal many individuals will have at one point or another in their lives. Weight loss can be a challenging and sometimes daunting task. Many individuals who attempt to lose weight often fail or immediately regain their lost weight. One way to increase the likelihood of successful weight lose is to motivate yourself. Weight-loss motivation may be as simple as rewarding yourself once you reach a certain weight goal or thinking about the potential health benefits that come along with maintaining a healthy weight.
Step 1
Think about the potential health benefits. Individuals who are overweight are more likely to develop diabetes, heart disease, cancer and osteoarthritis. You are also more at risk for having a stroke when overweight. When you lose weight, you will be less likely to develop life-threatening illness or painful conditions.
Step 2
Stick with your workout routine. Keep your workout clothes out and in plain site. Being able to constantly see your workout clothes will remind you that you still need to go to the gym, go for walk, complete your exercise DVD or complete any other exercise of your choice.
Step 3
Maintain your healthy diet. Get rid of all the unhealthy foods in your house. You will be less tempted to eat unhealthy foods if they are not readily available. Go shopping for healthy foods that you enjoy. Stick with fruits, vegetables, lean meats and healthy low-calorie snacks -- including 100 calorie snack packs and yogurts.
Step 4
Increase your self-esteem. Many individuals who are overweight are embarrassed, afraid of being seen as lazy and lack confidence. Losing weight will help you feel better about yourself and enable you to enjoy life to the fullest.
Step 5
Engage in a little friendly competition. If you have a friend, family member or co-worker who is also looking to lose weight, make a competition out of it. Keep track of what you eat, how often you exercise and track your weight loss. Friendly competition can help keep you and your friend on track to successful weight loss.
Step 6
Reward yourself. When you notice your pants are becoming too big or your shirts are baggy, reward yourself with a new outfit. You can also choose to reward yourself with a night out with friends, a trip to the spa or a new pair of shoes.

- Prior to beginning a weight-loss program, visit with your family physician. Your family physician can help to determine an appropriate weight for you as an individual. Visiting with your doctor can also ensure that you are in good health to participate in exercise. This is extremely important if you have any preexisting medical conditions.
