Good Exercise to Lose Belly Fat at Home

Yoga is a physical and spiritual discipline that originated in ancient India. The practice of yoga has many health benefits and including helping you lose weight. You can do the following twisting exercise to help you lose belly fat at home. This twist can not only help you lose belly fat, but also helps relieve stress, improves your digestion and massages your abdominal organs. It is especially effective for women to practice in the second trimester of pregnancy to strengthen the lower back. This exercise is also therapeutic for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Step 1

Sit on the floor. Keep your legs straight out in front of you. Shift onto your left buttock and bend your knees while swinging your legs to your right side. Lay your feet on the floor outside of your right hip. Allow your right ankle to rest in the arch of your left foot.

Step 2

Inhale as you lift through the top of your sternum to lengthen the front of your torso. Exhale as you twist your torso to the right side. Make sure to keep your right buttock on or as close to the ground as possible. Press your tailbone toward the ground to keep your lower back stretched long. Soften your belly muscles.

Step 3

Tuck your right hand underneath your left knee. Bring your left hand to the floor next to your left buttock. Pull your right shoulder slightly backwards as you press your shoulder blades against your back as you continue to twist your chest to the left side.

Step 4

Turn your head to the left as you continue to twist your torso. Turn your head to the right if you want to counter the twist of the torso by turning it to look over your right shoulder at your feet.

Step 5

Inhale as you lift up more through your sternum, pushing through your fingers to help. Twist more with every exhale. Hold the twist for 30 seconds to one minute. Release out of the twist as you exhale and return to the beginning position. Repeat this stretch on the right side for the same amount of time.
