When looking for the right diet and weight loss plan for you, you may come across two popular plans: L.A. Weight Loss and Weight Watchers. While both have the same basic philosophy of consuming less calories in order to gain weight, the way they go about it is different for each plan. To choose the right plan for you, look at all of the aspects of the weight loss plans, including philosophy, plan, price, food choices and support options. LA Weight Loss and Weight Watchers both can help you shed unwanted pounds if you follow the plan correctly.
Plan
Each of the weight loss plans focuses on eating less calories over all, but the way it is done varies. Weight Watchers gives each of its members a daily points allowance and then assigns each food a points value. To lose weight, dieters simply stay within their daily points allowance, which is calculated depending on age, gender, height, weight and level of activity. LA Weight Loss focuses on vitamins and supplements to help decrease an individual's caloric intake each day. While both plans allow you to eat regular, grocery store food, LA Weight Loss requires that you supplement with their brand of bars and drinks.
Pricing
Pricing is where the two diet plans vary greatly. Weight Watchers is a more affordable means of weight loss. As of 2009, one could join a Weight Watchers group for a $29 registration fee, and $14 to $19 for each month after that. Members who meet their goal weight and stay at their goal weight are offered a lifetime membership for free. The LA Weight Loss website is deliberately coy about how much the plan actually costs. The type of plan, along with the purchase of vitamins and supplement will affect the price. Online diet review sites list the starting price being anywhere from $600 to $1,200.
Food Choices
With Weight Watchers, your food choices are more limited. While you can eat basically what you want, you need to keep your daily points allowance in consideration, remembering that you must eat all day while staying within your points allowance. There is an extensive points library available online, and you can use a calculator to discern how many points are in any given food. LA Weight Loss allows you to eat regular food, but you'll be supplementing breakfast, lunch or both with LA Weight Loss branded snacks and drinks. Dinner will be of your choosing.
Support
Both weight loss programs offer support systems to help you stay on track. Weight Watchers has weekly meetings, where you'll spend time with other Weight Watchers members, weigh in and talk about some of your successes. LA Weight Loss offers you a personalized counselor who you'll meet with weekly and who you can call for guidance any time you need an extra push or have a nutrition-related question.
Target Weight Loss
Weight Watchers urges members to choose their own weight loss goals, so that they always have something to work toward, and when those goals are met, they can gain a free lifetime membership. Weight Watchers focuses on a healthy 1 to 2 pounds per week weight loss, and only promises as much to its members. LA Weight Loss also focuses on a 1 to 2 pound per week weight loss and focuses more on smaller steps to getting there, rather than choosing one goal to reach toward.
