Pregnenolone is a steroid hormone that the body converts to DHEA, which is then converted into estrogen, testosterone, progesterone and other hormones within the body. Pregnenolone is considered a precursor to all the hormones that the body produces. Supplementing with the hormone may improve your memory, increase vitality, relieve depression and stimulate the immune system. Pregnenolone is usually available at health food stores. Men as well as women may supplement with the hormone to reap these benefits, but you will have to adjust your intake of the supplement to find the right dosage for you. Always consult your doctor before adding any supplement to your diet.

Step 1

Take 50 mg pregnenolone daily with either breakfast or lunch if you are a man; taken 25 mg if you are a woman, for two weeks.

Step 2

Increase your dosage by 25 mg after two weeks. Watch how you feel. If you feel agitated or nervous, the dosage is too high. Reduce your dosage the moment that you feel these side effects. Continue to increase your dosage every two weeks if you continue to feel the benefits of taking the supplement. The maximum daily dosage should not exceed 300 mg.

Step 3

Do not change or increase supplementation of your other supplements while starting pregnenolone. This will help you make sure that any difference you feel will be from the pregnenolone.
