List of Foods High in Calcium D

Calcium D is actually a chemical compound known as calcium D-glucarate. More commonly referred to as simply glucarate, this phytochemical can be found naturally occurring in many fruits and vegetables, though you'll often see it as a dietary supplement on store shelves. And while glucarate isn't necessarily essential to your health, there is some belief, according to the American Cancer Society, that it may actually have an anti-cancer effect on the body, reducing the risk of prostate, colon, breast, lung, liver and skin cancers.

Fruits

According to the Journal of Nutrition, one of the main groupings of food high in calcium D-glucarate is fruits. Apples and grapefruits are probably two of the more common fruits containing this phytochemical, but you may also find glucarate in cherries, pears, limes, lemons, apricots, grapes, oranges, tomatoes and other Rosaceae or Citrus fruits.

Vegetables

Another source of calcium D-glucarate is vegetables, especially those in the cruciferous family. This would include such vegetables as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, lettuce, bok choy, Brussels sprouts and other dark green leaves. This nutrient can also be found in Cucurbitaceous vegetables like cucumbers and squash.

Legumes

It's also possible to find glucarate in many of your standard legumes, or Leguminosae family of plants. This would include peas, garbanzo beans, black beans, pinto beans, lima beans, kidney beans, soy beans and lentils.
