Prenatal and postnatal yoga teachers are professionals who have the knowledge to teach their clients trough all three trimesters of pregnancy and during the postnatal period. You can get certified either by attending workshops or by taking an online course and examination. Although most prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training courses are for individuals who already are certified yoga teachers, there are courses available for people without previous fitness certifications.
Aura Wellness Center
Aura Wellness Center offers a prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher course. This is a 100-hour home-study course that teaches breathing techniques and classic yoga postures that are modified for each trimester of pregnancy. You will also learn relaxation and yoga techniques for mother and child before and after birth. A prerequisite for taking this course is a minimum of 200-hour yoga teacher certification or similar efficiency. American Fitness Professionals and Associates
American Fitness Professionals and Associates, the AFPA, offers a prenatal and postnatal exercise specialist certification course. The course will give fitness professionals advanced skills and knowledge to teach prenatal and postnatal clients. The course covers topics such as pre- and postnatal yoga, aerobic and resistance training, fetal responses to exercise and nutrient requirements. The training is done online and includes three textbooks, four DVDs, certification examination, AFPA membership and toll-free support. You do not need a previous fitness certification to take the course. The course fee is $395 and you have six months to complete the program. YogaFit
YogaFit offers prenatal yoga teacher program workshops. The prenatal yoga training will teach techniques to relieve general aches and pains, morning sickness, as well as how to ease the labor processes. You will also learn to teach new mothers postnatal poses that aid in natural healing of their body. You need to attend a workshop to get certified. Mamaste Yoga
Mamaste Yoga offers a prenatal yoga teacher certificate for registered yoga teachers who have finished or are enrolled in a 200-hour yoga teacher training program. The program is a home-study course that is taken in four modules within a 12 month period. You will also receive individualized contact with a mentor throughout the program by phone and email. The course is approximately 60 hours and costs $700. In addition, you must purchase textbooks and videos separately.
