You can take your yoga teacher training course in South Africa. Classes are available in several yoga styles, including Hatha and Vinyasa Flow, and are taught in English. Choose from a one-month intensive course, or spread out the coursework over several months. A YTT course in South Africa registered with the Yoga Alliance will automatically qualify you to become nationally certified in the United States.

Yoga Warrior

Yoga Warrior offers a 200-hour yoga teacher training program in the Vinyasa Flow style in Johannesburg, South Africa. Complete the course over eight mandatory weekends. Go to class for 2.5 hours on Friday night and 7.5 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Course topics include philosophy of yoga, anatomy, introduction to meditation and how to choreograph a class. The Yoga Warrior teachers training courses is recommended for those with a regular advanced practice who already possess knowledge of yoga posture.

Ananda Sanga Educational Institute

Take the 200 or 300 additional hours required for an advanced yoga teacher training certificate as an intensive Hatha yoga course for a month in Western Cape, South Africa. Live at the center and attend classes from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. six days a week. This course is recommended for those with a little or a lot of experience who are interested in a yoga career or simply want to deepen their practice. Topics covered include Karma yoga and basic Hatha yoga poses, as well as Raja yoga and the yoga sutras of Patanjali.

Africa Yoga

Take a four-week intensive Ashtanga yoga teachers training course in St. Francis Bay, South Africa, while you live at the Africa Yoga center. This course focuses on teaching you the poses of the Ashtanga Primary Series. To be accepted into this program, you must have a written reference from a teacher with whom you have been taking classes for two years; the ability to intuitively flow from one pose to the next in the Primary Series is a major advantage. Classes run six full days a week, and course topics include marketing, choreographing the class to music and the use of props.

Shades of Yoga

Shades of Yoga offers Vinyasa Flow yoga teacher training retreats in South Africa and countries around the world. This four-week intensive course is not at a yoga center, but at different resorts around South Africa, including the Crawfords Beach Lodge in Eastern Cape, the Drakensberg Retreat Centre in Northern Drakensberg and the Engeleni Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal. Train six days a week from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., including two hours of meditation and three hours of Vinyasa Flow yoga. Topics covered include yoga philosophy, adjustments and teaching techniques.
