Elliptical machines are low-impact training devices that give you the benefits of a total-body, cardiovascular workout without placing excessive stress on your hips, knees and ankles. While elliptical training is relatively safe, proper footwear is a must when using an elliptical machine. Walking and running shoes are suitable for elliptical machine use, including the Reebok Easy Tones.

Reebok Easy Tones Claims

While no research has been conducted on the use of Reebok Easy Tones and elliptical machines, Easy Tones shoes are claimed to have many benefits when it comes to toning your body. The built-in balance ball-like nodes of the Reebok Easy Tones are designed to create an imbalance so your lower body and core muscles are forced to stabilize you and, as a result, burning more calories as you walk.

Posture

Poor posture is one of the most common mistakes while using an elliptical machine and reduces the benefits of your workout, possibly leading to pain post-workout. While using an elliptical machine, you should remain in a neutral stance. Your head should be held high and your shoulders should be back. Reebok Easy Tones claim to be beneficial in helping your maintain proper posture as a result of their balance ball-like pods.

Foot Positioning

Always wear walking, running or cross-training shoes while using an elliptical, because proper positioning of your feet is important when working out to reduce risk of injury. According to the American Council on Exercise, you should also roll your entire foot through each forward gliding motion. The rocker-shaped design of the Reebok Easy Tone sole makes it easier for you to roll through your heels and roll up to your toes. The shoe is designed to make a back-to-front rocking movement as you move.

Choosing Athletic Shoes

The Reebok Easy Tones are an option for athletic footwear when using an elliptical machine as long as they fit properly. The University of Michigan Health System recommends that you try on shoes in the afternoon, since your feet tend to swell during the day and are at their maximum size then. Also, while trying on shoes, wear the socks you normally wear when exercising to ensure proper fit. There should be enough space at the end of your longest toe to fit a thumbnail.

You should never have to break athletic shoes in. When your shoes become worn or damaged, replace them.
