Curves Fitness is unique in that it is a gym that offers a planned full-body workout including both cardiovascular and strength training in 30-minute sessions. Curves fitness centers are specifically for women and they have both similarities and differences with other all-women fitness centers.

Function

All-women's fitness centers are, in addition to being workout facilities, places for women to meet and bond with other women. Moreso than co-ed gyms, all-women's fitness centers tend to be places for women to rejuvenate themselves in mind, soul, and spirit.

Features

Because Curves prescribes a 30-minute workout and does not have a pool, sauna, yoga room or similar space, women tend to only spend time at the facility during their workout.

Size

Curves offers a full-body workout that occurs in one room, and with the exception of rest rooms and changing rooms, that is the entire facility. Lucille Roberts is another well-known all women's fitness center (with locations in the Northeast) and they have cardio rooms, strength training rooms, group exercise rooms (yoga, pilates, step, dance), and individual personal training.

Convenience

In addition to Curves and Lucille Roberts, there are other all-women's fitness centers and they are usually locally owned or regional franchises. Curves may lack the expansive facilities of some of these other fitness centers, but a Curves membership is good at any of their nearly 10,000 locations in over 70 countries.

Price

Curves costs approximately $50 per month--slightly more in metropolitan areas--which is comparable to other women's fitness centers though some clubs with more amenities and services are in the $100 range.
