It is also important that you are able to demonstrate physical tasks if you wish to be a personal trainer.
Bachelor's Degree in Health Field
The United States Department of Labor notes that an increasing number of clients are hiring personal trainers who have earned Bachelor's Degrees in health or fitness fields. These fields include physical education or exercise science. Though it's not required, many fitness centers who hire personal trainers to work with their clientele look for a Bachelor's Degree on the resume of a personal trainer.
Medical Training
When working with clients, it's important for personal trainers to be prepared to handle medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest. If a client were to go into cardiac arrest, the personal trainer would need to start CPR immediately.
It is also beneficial for personal trainers to understand medical conditions that could limit their clients. Personal trainers should have some training in treating basic injuries that could happen when their clients are working out. These injuries include strains, sprains and pulled muscles.
Personal Training Certification
Personal trainers should earn a physical fitness certification. This certification is awarded to people who take courses that teach fitness skills, techniques and theory. There are many such programs available. Each program is a little different and tailored to unique skill sets. Some certifying agencies are best for trainers interested in muscle-building, while others focus on aerobic or cardio training. Some agencies offer certifications in specialty areas such as yoga. Ability To Perfrom Physical Tasks
Personal trainers work closely with clients in gyms or fitness centers. Though part of their job is creating fitness plans and motivating their clients, another aspect is demonstrating how to perform stretches or exercises. Therefore, it is important that a personal trainer be in good physical shape and able to perform physical tasks. Most personal trainers choose this profession because of a passion for physical fitness.
