Omron manufactures home and professional health care products. The company makes blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes and cardio assessment devices for health care professionals, as well as pedometers, blood pressure monitors and pedometers for consumers. Omron offers a range of pedometers offering both basic features and advanced technology. As of March 2011, the website features 10 pedometer models.
Stride Measurement
Some Omron pedometers, such as the HJ-203YL, automatically calculate the length of your step when you enter your height. You can choose to accept this measurement or input your own. To measure your step length, walk 10 steps at a normal stride. Measure in feet from the heel of the first step to the toe of the last step. Divide the total distance by 10. Divide this number by 12 to figure your stride length in feet.
Axis Accelerator
Omron pedometers feature a single-axis accelerator, or a dual-axis accelerator or a tri-axis accelerator. A single-axis accelerator pedometer only accurately counts your steps if you position the pedometer horizontally to the ground. You can position a dual-axis pedometer either horizontally or vertically to the ground. A pedometer with a tri-axis pedometer accurately counts your steps if you position it vertically, horizontally or flat. You can attach this pedometer to your waist pants, put it in your pocket or in your bag.
Other Features
Depending on the model, a Omron pedometer may provide more information than total steps. Many models also display the date and time and automatically reset at midnight. Intermediate Omron pedometers offer feedback on calories burned and distance. More advanced models store up to 7 days of information. The most expensive Omron pedometer, the HJ-720ITC, includes Omron health care management software. Connect the pedometer to your computer and upload your information so you can analyze and track your progress.
Activity Tracker
The activity tracker is a feature offered on some Omron pedometers. You have to activate the feature before your workout session starts. This features records various fitness measurements, such as your step count, distance, calories burned, fat burned, and the time. At the end of your session, turn off the activity tracker. You can then review all the your results. The activity tracker only records information for one session. When you turn it on, the data from your last session is automatically deleted.
