When you are a man who weighs more than 300 pounds, you likely want to lose weight and lose it quickly. At this weight, you likely possess a substantial amount of belly fat. Large fat stores around your middle increase your chances of having heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other serious health conditions, Dr. Michael Jensen warns on the Mayo Clinic website. The good news is that extra-heavy guys can lose pounds quickly.

Diet

The first step for a man on a weight-loss journey should be changing his eating habits. Look at what you have been consuming and make changes. For example, if you are eating wholesome foods but in too-great amounts, it is time to reduce your portion sizes. Many overweight men can begin losing weight quickly simply by ceasing to go back for seconds. Reduce your calories but do not starve yourself. Consult your physician before you start a diet for his daily caloric recommendations.

Metabolism

Men are biologically engineered to have a higher metabolism than women, Weight Watchers explains on its website. Men are also predisposed to have more lean muscle mass than women and naturally store less fat than women. These facts often make it easier for men to lose weight more quickly than their female counterparts. Overweight men can often spark a quick loss of pounds by taking advantage of their propensity to burn fat calories easily. A man who increases his activity level by a small amount can rev up his metabolism and drop weight quickly.

Activity

Activity is essential to weight loss. An obese man who has been living a sedentary lifestyle needs to begin getting active at a gentle pace. Walking is an easy way for a man to get moving without overtaxing himself. If you don't like to walk outdoors, purchase a treadmill so you can work out in your home, or join a gym to get access to this and other exercise equipment. Walk briskly for 20 minutes or more to get maximum benefits; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that healthy adults get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise weekly, so you'll want to work up to that, at minimum, to lose weight. Keep your pace at a level in which your respiration and heart rate are noticeably increased but you can still talk without difficulty. Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise regimen.

Support

Guys often seek to lose weight without the help of others. Don't let manly pride stop you from getting the support you need to lose weight fast. Seek the aid of your physician, family and friends when you are serious about dropping pounds. Tell your loved ones how they ca help you. For example, ask them not to offer you second helpings. You will enjoy your weight-loss journey more if you involve your buddies. You can, for instance, get them together for pickup ball games. Don't be shy about letting others help you be successful in losing weight fast.
