Muscle Milk is a group of products made by CytoSport, which includes protein powder, premixed drinks, protein bars, instant oats and flavored protein water. Best known for their high protein milk-shake-style beverages, Muscle Milk is touted as workout recovery supplement that is a well-balanced combination of healthy carbohydrates, good-for-you-fats, and 25 g of protein per 14 oz. drink. Other products are also on the market as alternatives to CytoSport's Muscle Milk.
Muscle Milk's Nutritional Information
To find comparable alternatives, evaluate product's nutritional information. Per 14 oz. serving, Muscle Milk contains between 220 to 240 calories, making it a dense snack or very light meal. All flavors have 9 g of total fat, 1.5 of which are saturated, with no trans fat. Also, Muscle Milks contain 10 to 14 g of carbohydrate, which is slightly less than 1 oz.of bread; and 3 g of sugar, far less than the 10 g of sugar found in a medium apple.
Evopro
Also made by CytoSport, Evopro is the same protein that makes Muscle Milk, but with less fat. Evopro is not sold as a prepared drink like Muscle Milk so you mix one scoop with 6 to 8 oz. of water, making it a more affordable option than the prepared beverage. Evopro's smaller serving contains 26 g of protein, 130 calories, 2 g of fat, 3 g of carbohydrate and less than 1 g of sugar.
EAS Precision Protein
EAS offers an alternative to Muscle Milk in their Myoplex protein drinks. Their prepared 17 oz. beverages contain 300 calories, 7 total g of fat of which one is saturated, zero trans fat, 20 g of carbohydrates and a whopping 42 g of protein. Myoplex is recommended for use within 30 minutes of working out or as a meal replacement, as is Muscle Milk.
