A weight-loss delivery plan may help you lose weight without you having to count calories or cook complicated meals for yourself. Most weight-loss delivery plans are convenient because you can order food online or over the phone, and their choices may be more varied than what you might cook for yourself. Weight-loss delivery plans may not meet all of your medical needs, so consult your doctor before starting one.

Foods

Weight-loss delivery plans usually deliver a breakfast, lunch, dinner and smaller snacks or desserts for each day, although some plans may have options for you to have prepared foods for less than seven days each week. The meals may be fresh-frozen or vacuum-packed, and are ready to eat or to be heated. You may be able to select each of your individual meals and snacks from a list of options, and choices may include vegetarian, kosher, hot or cold options. These meals help you lose weight because they are calorie controlled.

Program Features

Some weight-loss delivery plans are part of comprehensive diet programs that include individual in-person or telephone consultations, personalized diet plans and recommendations for physical activity. Many companies that deliver foods for weight loss offer an online component, such as weight trackers, meal planners, articles about nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices and community discussions. Other weight-loss delivery programs strictly deliver your food, and do not have these other components.

Special Needs and Diets

Some companies offer specialized plans for different groups of people, such as women, men, individuals with Type 2 diabetes, older adults or teenagers. Programs may be based strictly on calorie levels, or they may base their food on a low glycemic diet to help you control your blood sugar. Some programs may recommend adding fresh foods to the delivered foods for extra nutrition. These may include fruits and vegetables, whole grains or dairy products.

Long-Term Considerations

On almost any diet delivery plan, it is relatively simple to achieve and maintain your goal weight for as long as you are on the program, because all you do is eat the foods and follow the instructions. However, it is important to think about the long-term effectiveness of the program. Some weight-loss programs include transition plans that gradually decrease the number of delivered foods you eat as you cook more foods yourself. This can lower your risk of gaining weight back after you go off of the weight-loss delivery program.
