The conventional clothing industry uses a significant amount of resources and energy to manufacture its products each year, and although organic clothing is far from impact-free, it's a healthier choice for the environment. Additionally, men who suffer from sensitivities to synthetic compounds and chemical elements in traditional clothing may feel more comfortable in organic items they can wear for yoga classes or on any casual day.

Benefits

Because of stringent growing and production standards, organic clothing is certified to be free of pesticides and synthetic substances that might irritate skin or trigger allergies, according to the New York Times. Due to the gentler production process of organic items, many are more durable than their traditional counterparts, so they may last longer or hold up better in the washing machine. Environmentally conscious men may appreciate that organic yoga clothing is produced through sustainable practices that are easier on farmland and have a smaller carbon footprint.

Fabrics

Organic cotton is often the first fabric that comes to mind when you think about eco-conscious yoga clothing, but even though it's commonly available for men, it's not the only choice. Planet Green notes that organic coconut shell, soy, bamboo and hemp clothing are also available through a variety of retailers. Each has a slightly different feel and various properties, so it's best to try on each kind before ordering a full outfit in a fabric you've never worn before.

Items

Although options for men's clothing are typically more limited than those for women, men have choices in organic socks and underwear, yoga pants or sweatpants, loose T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts and hoodies or light jackets. When you're trying on items and considering what to buy, make sure you choose organic pieces that feel soft and comfortable, allow freedom of movement and seem tailored to your body shape.

Considerations

One concern when purchasing organic clothing is that it's typically more expensive than conventionally produced clothing. The fact that it may be more durable can help offset that factor, but if you're on a tight budget, you might need to save up before purchasing a full yoga outfit or two. Consider online shopping, especially if you don't live in an area that has outlets for organic clothing. You'll find a greater selection online of both fabrics and clothing items, and you'll be able to pick out exactly what you want.
