Colon cleansing (colon irrigation) is promoted as a means of removing toxins from your gastrointestinal tract that when left in your body can lead to a number of health conditions such as asthma and arthritis. It is theorized that washing these poisons out of your system improves your immune health and your energy.
According to the Mayo Clinic there is scant scientific evidence to either support or disprove these claims. The Mayo says the digestive system and bowel are naturally designed to eliminate bacteria and waist without the assistance of special cleansing, enemas or diets.
One popular colon irrigation procedure is known as the Seven Day Colon Cleanse. It is advertised as a complete cleansing program.
Ingredients
The makers of the Seven Day Colon Cleanse say their product contains natural laxatives (cascara sagrada, cape aloe and senna leaves) as well as flaxseed oil that work together to loosen the surplus of buildup on the walls of the colon. This excess waste is then said to push it way through the intestine where it is eliminated through the bowels with the aid of psyllium fiber.
The fennel seed is contained in the cleansing formula to alleviate gas and abdominal cramping. The African bird pepper is included to reduce indigestion and diminish inflammation.
There are a number of other herbal ingredients that work together to expedite the colon cleansing process. They include black walnut, cape aloe, and a blend of garlic, red clover pepper, black cohosh power and red sage powder.
Promoted Effects
The Seven Day Colon Cleanse promises that its product will detoxify the colon, eliminate constipation and its accompanying gas and cramping. Its also touted as having the ability to enhance the absorption of nutrients and increase their efficiency. It is recommended that the Colon Cleanse be used one or two times per year for optimum health.
Capsule Form
The Seven Day Cleanse claims to be the only complete colon cleansing product that comes in capsule form. The kit includes 21 packs of capsules. The recommended dosage is one packet three times per day for seven days.
