Spider veins are blue or purple lines just underneath the skin that resemble a spider web or tree branches. They are normally the result of the back up of blood in the veins, sun exposure, hormonal changes or injury. Spider veins usually aren't a serious health concern but they can be unsightly. Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, is considered a viable treatment and is found naturally in some foods and also available as a supplement. Although there is little scientific evidence to support its efficacy in treating spider veins, reputable sources like the University of Maryland Medical Center purport its possible benefits.
